Why Go

Nobletts Creek trail is a nice easy hike in the Uinta Mountains which follows Nobletts Creek through a forest up to a spring in the side of the mountain. Clocking in at 2 miles with minimal elevation gain, it is a family friendly hike and is typically snow free at the beginning of June. From the parking lot, head up the trail towards the spring, the upper section of the trail may require fording the creek at a couple of spots - there are typically logs and rocks one can step on, but you have to get your feet wet. You can hike up to see the water coming out of the mountain, however it is steep and may not be suitable for children.

Father's Day Family Hike

We hiked Nobletts Creek on Father's Day with my parents, navigating beaver ponds and creek crossings through gentle forest on what turned out to be the perfect easy family outing before they relocated north.

We were visiting my parents before they moved from Park City up to Manson and wanted to get out for a hike on Father's Day. My parents had hiked Nobletts Creek before and thought it would be a good family hike, which indeed proved to be the case.

There were around five cars at the trailhead and during the hike we passed four separate groups, not too busy given the beautiful weather. After setting out on the trail, we passed by a series of beaver ponds - you could see numerous stumps where the beavers had chewed down a tree.

The trail parallels the creek and at the beginning of the hike there was one fairly muddy spot, and towards the end of the hike there were a couple of places where we had to use logs and rocks to cross the stream - it was a bit tricky, but we managed.

We saw a number of different wildflowers. Around Lake Chelan where we are past wildflower season, in the Uintas at 7,700 feet, wildflower season was in full swing. I didn't recognize most of the flowers, but my mom was able to identify a few.

We reached the end of the hike and took a little break to hydrate. I climbed up to see the source of the Spring and ended up going a bit higher for a nice view down on the group. I helped my son come up to the source of the spring, as it was rocky, wet and slick - not really a trail but more of a scramble.

We retraced our steps back to the car, passing by a couple of groups along the way. One group indicated the turned around rather than ford the creek. All in all a great easy hike for the family, and a great father's day!
