Seattle Guide →beExploring / Seattle
Seattle Parks and Recreation maintains hundreds of courts and fields across the city, covering nearly every sport. Most outdoor basketball courts are always free and open. Tennis and pickleball courts allow free drop-in play when unreserved. Soccer and baseball fields mostly require a reservation, though the drop-in program makes select fields free during designated hours.
Each guide below covers all documented public locations for that sport, with an interactive map, drop-in info, reservation links, and tips for the best spots by neighborhood.

Basketball courts are always free. Tennis and pickleball courts are free for drop-in play on unreserved courts — reservations cost $10/hour and must be made in advance (not same-day).
Synthetic turf fields at Hiawatha, Jefferson Park, and Walt Hundley are the best options in wet weather. Grass fields can become waterlogged and may close for maintenance in winter.
Lit courts and fields for evening play: Jefferson Park (tennis, basketball, soccer), Woodland Park Lower (tennis), Solstice Park (tennis), and Magnolia Playfield (pickleball).
The Seattle Parks drop-in program makes certain soccer and baseball fields free during designated hours. Check the Seattle Parks website before heading out — availability changes seasonally.
Indoor options exist year-round. Amy Yee Tennis Center has 6 indoor courts, and several community centers offer indoor basketball and pickleball drop-in hours.
Parking fills fast at Jefferson Park and Woodland Park on sunny weekends. Arrive before 9am or use transit — both parks are served by Metro routes.
