Most visitors do best choosing wineries by location first, then reputation. These four areas each have a distinct feel.
South Shore
The South Shore road runs along the lake east of Chelan and is home to the most established wineries in the AVA. Many have invested in impressive facilities, manicured grounds, and full restaurants — the closest thing Lake Chelan has to a Napa-style wine country experience.
Best for
Chelan
Surprisingly, there's only one winery right in downtown Chelan, with a couple more spread out around the edges. A quick option for a taste without driving, but don't expect a full wine trail.
Best for
Downtown Manson
A cluster of tasting rooms within walking distance of each other in Manson's small downtown. The vibe is more casual and lively than the South Shore, with several spots hosting live music on weekends.
Best for
North Shore
The north shore wine country extends from Manson along the upper lake with a quieter, more laid-back feel. Worth the extra drive if you want to explore beyond the South Shore and prefer a less crowded tasting experience.

Limit yourself to 2–3 wineries. Rushing through more takes the enjoyment out of it — give yourself time to settle in at each one.
Start earlier than you think, especially in summer. Parking and popular tasting rooms fill up fast.
Plan transportation before you go. A shuttle service or designated driver makes the day far more relaxed.
Don't underestimate drive times. The South Shore road and Manson are further than they look on a map.
Summer weekends get busy fast. Reservations at popular wineries are often required.
If you're skipping a food stop, eat before you go. Tasting on an empty stomach ruins a good afternoon.
