Falls Creek Campground sits on the banks of the Chewuch River, about 15 miles north of Winthrop via Chewuch Road (NF-51), at 2,100 feet. It is a small campground — a handful of sites tucked into the riverside forest, with the sound of the river running through camp. The Chewuch is clear and cold here, and several sites sit close enough to the bank for easy access for swimming or fishing. There is no potable water on-site and no trash service; pack in what you need and pack out what you bring.
The main draw is right across the road: Falls Creek Falls, one of the more accessible waterfalls in the Methow area, is reachable in a quarter mile on a paved path — short enough for young kids and easy enough for any group. The full Falls Creek Falls Trail continues for 2.6 miles into the surrounding forest. All sites are first-come, first-served with limited cell service in the area; pay through Recreation.gov at the on-site pay station before settling into camp.

The full Falls Creek Falls Trail continues for 2.6 miles through the surrounding forest. The short walk to the falls works well for families with young kids or anyone who wants a quick leg-stretcher without committing to a full hike.
Winthrop Hiking Guide →The Chewuch River runs along the campground with several sites close to the bank. The water is clear and cold, good for a quick swim on a warm summer day. The Chewuch is also open to fishing — check current WDFW regulations for this stretch of the river before you go.
NF-51 (Chewuch River Road) continues north from the campground deeper into the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The road passes additional trailheads and dispersed camping areas and eventually reaches Thirtymile Campground, one of the most remote drive-in sites in the area. It makes for a good scenic drive or a base for exploring the upper Chewuch drainage.
