Overview

Moore Point Campground sits on the north shore of Lake Chelan about 5.5 miles down-lake from Stehekin. It is a useful boat-in access point for hiking, with a fixed dock, open camping areas, a picnic shelter, food storage, and a clean, relatively new vault toilet. The campground is about 0.4 miles from the Lakeshore Trail and also provides access to the Fish Creek Trail, which climbs into the mountains and connects with the Summit Trail.

Moore Point is more of an open campground than a set of sharply defined numbered campsites. There are several flat areas with room for multiple tents, plus open space around the shelter and shoreline. The fixed dock has capacity for three boats and can be difficult to use when Lake Chelan is below 1,096 feet. Ferries may be able to drop off or pick up at Moore Point, but call ahead to confirm because stops can depend on scheduling and conditions.

Moore Point is popular with boaters in summer, but hikers should not overlook it. From camp, the short connector reaches the Lakeshore Trail, and the Fish Creek Trail heads up from the lake toward higher country before tying into the Summit Trail. That combination makes Moore Point one of the better Lake Chelan campgrounds for turning a boat-access trip into a bigger hiking objective.
