Can you sled at Front Street Park?

What happens at the gazebo?

Live music, festival ceremonies, and the Lighting Festival program. On a regular summer day it is often a band; on a festival weekend it is the stage for the whole downtown.

Where do I park for Front Street Park?

There is no park lot. Front Street is closed to cars. Use a downtown paid lot, or on festival weekends the Willkommen Park & Ride behind Safeway and the free shuttle.

Is Front Street Park good for kids?

Overview

Front Street Park is Leavenworth’s downtown lawn: 1.75 acres of gazebo, Maibaum (maypole), and sloping grass in the middle of the pedestrian village. The City of Leavenworth calls it the recreation center of town. Hours are 6am to midnight — later than the river parks — and camping is not allowed.

This is where the calendar happens outdoors. The gazebo is the stage for live music; the lawn hosts Art in the Park, the Christmas Lighting Festival, Maifest, and the ticketed Oktoberfest tent (21+). In winter the same slope is the free sledding hill, steps from cocoa and the beer halls. Hours and events follow the City of Leavenworth.

Gazebo

The outdoor stage in the middle of downtown. Bands, festival ceremonies, and the Lighting Festival program all use this bandstand. Sit on the steps or the lawn; you will hear it from the shops.

Lawn

The sloping grass in the middle of the pedestrian village. Art in the Park, Maifest, the Lighting Festival, and the Oktoberfest tent all use this lawn. On a regular day it is the downtown sit-down — shade trees, benches, and the gazebo a few steps away.

Restrooms

Public restrooms on the park, used heavily on festival days. Downtown lots also have restrooms with limited hours — the city parking map marks which ones.

Things to Know

Open 6am–midnight

Front Street Park closes later than Waterfront and Enchantment (those are 10pm). City code makes it unlawful to stay in the park between midnight and 6am. No camping.

No park lot

Front Street is a pedestrian plaza. Use downtown paid lots (Aasgard, Blewett, Colchuck, and the rest of the city parking map) and walk. On Lighting Festival and Oktoberfest weekends, use the Willkommen Park & Ride behind Safeway.

Free sledding in winter

The sloping lawn is the in-town sledding hill. Bring a plastic sled — metal runners are not allowed, and there is no rental stand in the park. Morning is quieter than after lunch.

Oktoberfest is 21+

During Oktoberfest the Front Street Park tent is ticketed and 21 and over. Kids belong at Kinderplatz and the Festhalle, not in the park tent. The rest of the year the lawn is all-ages.

Dogs on leash

Leashed dogs are welcome on a normal day. Festival gates are a different rule: the ticketed Oktoberfest venues do not allow pets except ADA service animals.
