Overview
Fishing around Leavenworth is three different trips, not one. The WDFW access on Icicle Creek is a roadside pullout — hang a Discover Pass, walk to the water. Eightmile Lake is an alpine lake up toward the Enchantments: a real hike, a Northwest Forest Pass, and a pin you earn. Blackbird Island Pond is the in-town stocked hole, and it is not open to every adult with a rod.
The in-town Wenatchee River is not on this map. It has no single access to pin, and through midsummer the reach belongs to tubers — see the river tubing guide for what that water is actually good for. Seasons, limits, and gear rules change every year; this page names the shape of each spot and sends the specifics to the WDFW fishing pamphlet. Which hangtag you need is in the parking-pass guide.

This is the fishing access you can drive to. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife manages the parking area; hang a Discover Pass, walk down to Icicle Creek, and you are on the water. It sits on the lower Icicle about a mile and a half northeast of the hatchery, not at the hatchery lot itself. If you want a river day without a hike, this is the pin.
What to Know
- WDFW-managed parking. A Discover Pass is required. A Northwest Forest Pass does not cover this lot.
- It is a pullout on the lower Icicle, between the hatchery reach and the Wenatchee confluence — not the hatchery lot a mile and a half southwest.
- A Washington freshwater license is required. Seasons, limits, and gear rules live in the WDFW pamphlet, not on this page.

This is the hatchery water, not the WDFW pullout up the road. When the spring chinook fishery is on, the lot is a fishing lot. When that window closes — typically late spring into late June — the hatchery shuts the parking lot to cars, and the same grounds become the early-season tubing put-in until Icicle Creek drops. The character of the spot is the short window. Miss it and this pin is a walk-in bank, not a place to leave the car.

- A short early-summer window, typically late spring into late June. Opening dates, limits, and gear rules are in the WDFW pamphlet; they move.
- Walk-in river access stays open after the hatchery closes the parking lot to cars — usually once the spring chinook fishery ends, around late June.
- 12790 Fish Hatchery Road, off Icicle Road south of town. Do not confuse this lot with the WDFW access a mile and a half downstream.
- Once the fishery ends, do not count on parking here. Tubers use the same grounds early, then move to the Icicle Road bridge.

This is the earn-it pin. Eightmile Lake sits in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, a quieter alpine-lake day than Colchuck, and the photo on this page is someone fishing it. The trailhead is up FR 7601 off Icicle Road — the same spur that later reaches Stuart Lake — and the hike is on the order of 6.6 miles round trip with about 1,300 feet of gain. If you want a roadside hole, this is the wrong card.
What to Know
- Park at Eightmile Trailhead. A Northwest Forest Pass (or America the Beautiful) is required. A Discover Pass is not valid here. Vault toilet at the lot.
- Fill out the free self-issued wilderness permit at the trailhead kiosk. Overnight camping in season needs an Enchantments permit through Recreation.gov.
- Dogs are not allowed in the Enchantment Permit Area, including this trail.
- Do not confuse this lot with Stuart Lake. Keep driving up FR 7601 if you are headed to Colchuck.
Enchantment Park / Blackbird Island

This is the in-town hole, and it is the one most visiting adults cannot fish. The City of Leavenworth stocks it with cutthroat trout and opens it to juveniles under 15, senior anglers, and anglers with a disability. Also called Enchantment Park Pond. If you are here with a kid who wants to wet a line without leaving town, this is the pin. If you are an adult who does not qualify, it is a walk around the island, not a fishing day.
What to Know
- Restricted to juveniles under 15, senior anglers, and anglers with a disability. That rule is the whole point of the pond.
- The City of Leavenworth stocks it with cutthroat trout.
- Walk from the Enchantment Park lot or across Blackbird Island from Waterfront Park. The city lot is free.
- A Washington freshwater license still applies for anyone who is required to have one. Check the pamphlet for youth and senior rules rather than guessing.

Before You Fish

A Washington freshwater fishing license is required unless you are in an exempt category. Seasons, limits, selective-gear rules, and emergency closures live in the WDFW sport-fishing pamphlet and the Fish Washington app. This page will not quote them — they change, and a stale limit is worse than no limit.
Two drive-to spots, two different passes
The WDFW Icicle Creek access is a Discover Pass site. Eightmile Trailhead is U.S. Forest Service and needs a Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful. A Discover Pass is not valid at Forest Service lots on Icicle Road. Hang the wrong tag and you can get a ticket. The parking-pass guide on this site spells out which hangtag belongs on which lot.
The town river is a tubing reach
The in-town Wenatchee is not a fishing pin on this map. There is no single access to drop a marker on, and through midsummer the water is full of tubes. If that is the stretch you were picturing, the river tubing guide is the page that actually describes it. Fish the Icicle access, the hatchery window, or hike to Eightmile instead.

Fishing Tips
Read this year’s WDFW pamphlet and check emergency rules the morning you go. The hatchery window in particular moves.
Hang the pass that matches the land manager. Discover Pass at the WDFW pullout. Northwest Forest Pass at Eightmile Trailhead. They are not interchangeable.
If you are in town with a young angler, start at Blackbird Island Pond. It is stocked, it is a walk from Enchantment Park, and the restriction is the feature, not a footnote.
Treat Eightmile as a hike that happens to end at a lake. Water, layers, and an early start — the same kit you would take to any Icicle alpine lake.

Common Mistakes
Displaying a Discover Pass at Eightmile Trailhead. That lot is Forest Service. The tag that works at the WDFW access does not work here.
Planning to fish the downtown Wenatchee in July or August. That reach is a tubing run then. The fishing pins on this page are the Icicle, the lake, and the pond.
Assuming Blackbird Island Pond is open to every adult with a rod. It is not. Juveniles under 15, seniors, and anglers with a disability.
Writing last year’s hatchery opener on the calendar and treating it as a fact. The window is typically late spring into late June. The pamphlet has the date that counts this year.
