Overview
A weekend is the right amount of time for Wenatchee. This plan is summer-leaning — a foothill morning above town, Pybus Public Market and the Apple Capital Loop on the river, then Castle Rock or Clara and Marion Lakes on day two — with a light third morning if you have it.
In winter, keep the same shape and swap the alpine hike for Mission Ridge or the Marion Lake ski tour. Day 3 is optional. Two full days is still a complete weekend.

Getting There
From Seattle
About 2.5 hours — 150 miles east via Stevens Pass (US-2) or Blewett Pass (US-97). Both are scenic. Check WSDOT in winter; Stevens Pass closes in storms and Blewett is the usual backup.
Park once downtown
The riverfront, Pybus, and dinner are walkable. You need the car for Sage Hills, Saddle Rock, Castle Rock, Clara and Marion Lakes, and Mission Ridge.
Where to stay
Downtown and riverfront hotels put you on the shuttle, the Loop, and Pybus. Lincoln Rock, Daroga, and Confluence are the Columbia River campgrounds — book summer weekends early.
When to arrive
Friday afternoon makes the whole weekend longer. Saturday-morning arrivals still work, but you lose the easy first-night river walk and you hit heat on the foothill trails.

If You Only Have a Weekend, Prioritize This
Hike above town on day one
Sage Hills or Saddle Rock is the context for the whole visit. Skip it and Wenatchee is just a river and a market.
Eat at Pybus
The food hall is the in-town meal. South, Huck, or the taproom — then walk the Loop. Do not treat it as optional scenery.
Do one bigger outdoor day
Clara and Marion Lakes, Castle Rock, or Mission Ridge. One headline, not two alpine objectives plus a long Sunday drive.

Ease Into It
Foothill Hike + Pybus + Riverfront
MORNING
Sage Hills or Saddle Rock
Start on the hills above town while it is still cool. Sage Hills is the year-round singletrack network with Columbia River views; Saddle Rock is the shorter climb to a basalt outcrop — about 3 miles and 900 feet. Both are at their best from late March through May when balsamroot is in bloom. You do not need a pass.
Summer afternoons hit the upper 80s and 90s on these open slopes. An 8 a.m. start is the whole trick.
MIDDAY
Lunch at Pybus Public Market
Drop back into town and eat at Pybus Public Market — the riverfront food hall in the renovated warehouse. South for Latin plates, Huck for an all-day American table, or the Hellbent taproom if you want a pint with the river. The Saturday outdoor market (spring through fall) is worth timing if you can.
AFTERNOON
Apple Capital Loop + the river
The Apple Capital Loop runs right past Pybus — paved, flat, and 10 miles if you want the full circuit on both banks. Most weekend visitors do a shorter out-and-back from the market or Confluence State Park. This is the in-town half of the trip: no trailhead lottery, and the reason Wenatchee is not only a base for somewhere else.
EVENING
Dinner downtown
Stay walkable. McGlinn’s is the pub table a few blocks from Pybus; Sweetwood BBQ is the brisket stop on Wenatchee Avenue; Iwa is sushi two blocks from the market. The Windmill is the reservation if the dinner is the point.
The Core Day
Alpine Lake or Castle Rock + the River
MORNING
Clara and Marion Lakes or Castle Rock
Day two is the bigger outdoor piece. Clara and Marion Lakes, near Mission Ridge, is the alpine day — about 6 miles and 1,200 feet, usually snow-free by late June. Castle Rock in Tumwater Canyon is the shorter, dramatic alternative: 2.3 miles, 730 feet, 360-degree views, and you pass it on US-2. Pick one. Do not stack both on a two-night stay.
Clara and Marion needs a Northwest Forest Pass. Castle Rock is a roadside trailhead with no pass.
AFTERNOON
Columbia River campground or swim
Come down to the river. Lincoln Rock or Daroga State Park are the developed Columbia River parks with beaches and hookups — even if you are not camping, day-use swimming and the lawns are the recovery slot after an alpine morning. Confluence State Park is closer to town and sits on the Loop if you want to stay downtown.
EVENING
The table you skipped on Friday
Second downtown dinner. If you did McGlinn’s last night, do Sweetwood or Iwa. Keep it in town so you are not driving after a full outdoor day.

Mission Ridge or a Slow Exit
OPTION A
Mission Ridge (winter) or one more hike
If you have a third morning and it is ski season, Mission Ridge is the finish — take the free downtown shuttle and skip the mountain parking. In summer, this is a light extra hike or a longer Loop ride, not a second alpine objective.
OPTION B
Coffee, the Loop, and the drive home
The realistic Sunday. Pybus again for coffee, a short river walk, and the 2.5-hour drive back to Seattle before traffic stacks up on US-2 or I-90. This is the right ending when day two already did the work.

Quick Picks — Where to Base
Downtown & riverfront
Best for this itinerary
Walking distance to Pybus, the Loop, dinner, and the Mission Ridge shuttle. The simplest base for a short weekend.
Columbia River camping
Best in summer
Lincoln Rock and Daroga for hookups and a swim beach; Confluence if you want to bike the Loop from the tent. Book ahead.
Leavenworth, 30 minutes west
If the village is the trip
Stay there if Christmas lighting or the Bavarian core is the point. For this itinerary, commuting from Leavenworth wastes the walkable riverfront.

How to Make the Most of a Weekend
Hike in the morning
Day 1 and day 2 both start outside. Heat and parking get worse after 10 a.m. on the foothills and at Clara and Marion.
Leave the car downtown after the hike
Pybus, the Loop, and dinner do not need it. You will drive again for day two’s trailhead.
Do not stack Clara and Marion with Mission Ridge
They share a canyon. One mountain day is enough. The other morning is the river or the drive home.

Tips to Make This Itinerary Better
Come in April or May if you can
Orchard blossom and foothill wildflowers are the best version of day one. Summer still works — start earlier.
Reserve summer campsites first
Lincoln Rock and Daroga fill on summer weekends. If camping is the base, book before you lock the rest of the plan.
Check Mission Ridge the night before a winter trip
The shuttle schedule and the lot both change on powder mornings. The skiing guide has the logistics.
Keep day 3 optional
A slow coffee and the drive home is a good ending. Do not force Clara and Marion onto a Sunday when you still have 2.5 hours west.

Mistakes to Avoid
Treating Wenatchee as a pass-through to Leavenworth
The foothill hike, Pybus, and the Loop are the town trip. Driving through for a Bavarian dinner is the usual miss.
Starting Sage Hills at noon in July
Open sagebrush, no shade, and 90-degree air. The morning slot exists for a reason.
Stacking two big mountain days on a two-night stay
Clara and Marion plus Mission Ridge plus a long Sunday drive is a slog. Pick one headline outdoor day.

Visiting in Winter Instead?
Keep the same three-day shape: foothills or the Loop on day one if the trails are clear, Pybus for the in-town meal, and Mission Ridge — or the Marion Lake ski tour from the same lot — as the headline day. Use the free downtown shuttle. Ohme Gardens is closed November through March.
