Wenatchee sits within easy driving distance of several excellent hiking destinations. Below are a few worth exploring on a day trip.

Leavenworth

Leavenworth

Leavenworth, about 25 miles west of Wenatchee, is one of the best hiking bases in Washington State. The Icicle River Valley alone offers dozens of trails ranging from easy riverside walks to demanding summit routes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Icicle Gorge is a popular family-friendly loop through old-growth forest along a rushing creek, while Icicle Ridge delivers sweeping panoramic views of the valley and surrounding peaks. Snow Lake, Colchuck Lake, and the Enchantments are among the most celebrated destinations in the state and are accessible from Leavenworth trailheads. The combination of granite peaks, rushing creeks, and wildflower meadows makes this area exceptional in summer and fall.
Lake Chelan

Lake Chelan

Lake Chelan, about an hour southeast of Wenatchee, offers a surprisingly diverse range of hiking options above one of the deepest lakes in North America. The surrounding hills and ridgelines provide hikes with stunning lake views - trails like Chelan Butte, Slide Ridge, and Stormy Mountain put the full length of the lake on display from high above. Many trails here pass through open sagebrush and ponderosa pine terrain that dries out early in the season, making them excellent spring hiking destinations when higher routes are still buried in snow. The town of Chelan makes a great overnight base.
Entiat

Entiat

The Entiat Valley, about 20 miles north of Wenatchee, is a quiet and less-traveled corner of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest with excellent hiking along creeks, through old-growth forest, and into the high peaks of the Entiat Mountains. Silver Falls is a must-see - a dramatic waterfall reached via a short hike through a beautiful forest canyon. The Entiat River Trail offers a longer journey into the backcountry with stunning scenery and wildlife. The Mills Canyon area adds open ridgeline terrain with big views over the Columbia River and the valley below. Expect far fewer crowds here than at more famous Cascade destinations.
