Mission Ridge is what Wenatchee is best known for outdoors — a 2,000-acre ski area sitting directly above the city, with dry eastern-Cascade snow, shorter lift lines than the I-90 corridor, and a free seasonal shuttle from downtown. - About 20 miles and 30 minutes from downtown via Squilchuck Road / Mission Ridge Road.

- Typical season is late November or early December through late March or April, with 175–200 inches of snow most years.
- Night skiing runs on select evenings. Tickets, lessons, and rentals are at the base; buy online on busy weekends.

The natural companion to a Mission Ridge ski day. From the Lake Clara Trailhead in the resort’s lower lot, the summer trail climbs about 1.5 miles to Marion Lake, then open slopes just outside the ski-area boundary. Runs are short — under 1,000 feet — but the approach is moderate, the trail is usually packed by skiers and snowshoers, and you can exit the way you came or traverse south into the resort for a ski down.
What to Know
- Park in the lower Mission Ridge lot as soon as you enter, near the Lake Clara Trailhead. Parking is free.
- About 4 miles round trip and 1,800 feet of gain to the slopes above the lake. High point around 6,500 feet.
- Avalanche terrain sits above the lake. Check the NWAC East Slopes Central forecast before you go, and treat this as a real tour, not a walk-up.
- Coverage can be thin early season — rocks show through the bowl until the snowpack fills in.
- A marked snowshoe trail to Clara Lake is also maintained during ski season if you want the same trailhead without skis.

The quiet winter option on the same road as Mission Ridge — a forested creek-canyon park about 9 miles southwest of town. No lift ticket, no resort crowds. Locals use it for sledding and short nordic laps when they want snow without the full Mission Ridge day, or when the family split-boards between the resort and something smaller.
What to Know
- On Squilchuck Road, below the ski area — you pass it on the drive to Mission Ridge.
- Sledding and nordic, not lift-served skiing. Bring your own sleds and skis.
- A Discover Pass is typically required for state park day use.
- The historic lodge and group camp are reservable through Washington State Parks; there are no individual winter campsites.
- Much closer to town than Lake Wenatchee if you only have a couple of hours.

The community hill 30 minutes west if Mission Ridge is closed, too windy, or you want a shorter, cheaper day with night skiing and a rope-tow tubing park. Terrain is small compared with Mission Ridge — this is a town hill, not a destination resort — but it is the option a Wenatchee-based skier actually considers when the family wants lights, lessons, or a tubing session after dinner in Leavenworth.
What to Know
- About 30 minutes west of Wenatchee via US-2 / US-97.
- Night skiing and the LT Michael Adams Tubing Park are the draws. Tubing tickets are day-of at the window.
- Much smaller vertical and acreage than Mission Ridge. Do not treat it as a substitute for a full resort day.
- Pairs naturally with a Leavenworth evening if you are already heading west.
Lake Wenatchee · 45 minutes north

The nordic and snowshoe day when you want forest and quiet instead of a ski-area soundtrack. Lake Wenatchee State Park and the surrounding basin sit about 45 minutes north of Wenatchee — old-growth, lake views, and groomed tracks on a different scale from Squilchuck. No lift ticket. Worth the drive when Mission Ridge is a zoo or you came for touring and the alpine coverage is thin.
What to Know
- About 45 minutes north via US-2 toward Stevens Pass, then the Lake Wenatchee highway.
- A Discover Pass is typically required at the state park. Grooming and track-set status vary — check before you drive.
- Snowshoeing around the lake and Nason Creek is the no-pass backup if the nordic tracks are not set.
- This is not lift-served skiing. Bring nordic gear or snowshoes.

Before You Go
Free downtown shuttle
On ski days a free shuttle runs from downtown Wenatchee to Mission Ridge. It is the right move on powder mornings when the lot fills by 9 a.m., and it removes the mountain-road drive entirely. Check missionridge.com the night before for pickup locations.
Two climates
The valley can sit bare and cold-dry while Mission Ridge holds 175–200 inches for the season. Dress for the mountain even if downtown looks calm. The same split applies to avalanche and wind — valley weather is not the ridge forecast.
Tickets and parking
Buy lift tickets online on weekends. If you drive, arrive early on storm days. Tourers and snowshoers park in the lower lot by the Lake Clara Trailhead and do not need a lift ticket.
Avalanche on the tour
Marion Lake sits just outside the ski-area boundary. Treat it as backcountry: NWAC East Slopes Central, a beacon/shovel/probe, and a partner. The packed approach trail does not make the bowl above the lake a green run.

Ski Tips
Use the free downtown shuttle on weekends and powder days. The lot fills early, and the mountain road is the worst part of a Mission Ridge morning.
Time the visit to a fresh-snow day if you can. The sunny aspect consolidates fast after a warm-up — the best skiing is usually the morning after a storm.
Pack a mountain layer even when Wenatchee is in the 40s. Wind at 6,770 feet is a different day than the riverfront.
Warm up at Pybus Public Market on the way back into town — a better end to the ski day than a highway drive-through.

Common Mistakes
Driving to Mission Ridge on a weekend powder day without a backup plan for parking. That is what the shuttle is for.
Treating the Marion Lake tour like a hike with skis on. Coverage can be rocky, and the slopes above the lake are avalanche terrain.
Skipping Squilchuck or Lake Wenatchee when the resort is slammed. Both are real winter days without a lift ticket.
