Overview

Most people at Snoqualmie Pass are on a day trip from Seattle — an hour up I-90, a ski or sledding day, a pint at Dru Bru, and the drive home. A winter weekend is the better trip if you can stay: you skip the powder-morning commute, night ski on Friday, and still have Sunday for snowshoeing or a short backcountry lap. Pick the plan that matches how long you actually have.

What to Expect

Both itineraries are built around the same winter pieces. The difference is whether you sleep at the pass or drive I-90 twice in one day.

The Summit or the hill

Ski or snowboard at The Summit, or sled Hyak and tube the park if the group is not on lifts. One headline snow day is the trip — do not stack Alpental, tubing, and a snowshoe into the same morning.

Après at the pass

Dru Bru is the natural end of a ski or sledding day, two minutes off I-90. The Commonwealth next door is the sit-down dinner if you are staying overnight.

Sleep here, or do not

The Summit Inn and a handful of cabins are the only stays at the lifts. Most people day-trip. The weekend plan exists because Saturday traffic on I-90 is the tax on sleeping in Seattle.

Snoqualmie Pass Winter Weekend

The overnight plan. Ski The Summit on day one, snowshoe or tube on day two, and keep Sunday optional for a backcountry lap or a slow exit. Sleep at the pass so Saturday starts at the lifts, not in I-90 traffic.

Day Trip to Snoqualmie Pass

The default visit. Leave Seattle early, ski or tube through the middle of the day, and stop at Dru Bru before the westbound backup. Traction-tire law and weekend I-90 traffic are the two things that decide whether the day works.

Tips for Choosing

star

First winter visit? Use the day-trip plan unless you already have a room at the pass. The drive is short enough that one day is a real trip.

ac_unit

Powder weekend or night skiing Friday? Stay. The weekend itinerary is built around skipping the I-90 morning commute.

family_restroom

Traveling with kids who will not ski all day? Hyak Sno-Park and the Summit Tubing Park fit both plans — they are the family half of the pass, not a consolation prize.

bolt

Coming in summer? These pages are winter. Use the hikes guide until a summer weekend ships — Lodge Lake, Mirror Lake, and Franklin Falls are the current blocks.
